Two recent stories, front page stuff, of a Queenstown Councillor and lawyer charged with importing objectionable material through the internet and a 74 year old Dunedin man being imprisoned for nine months for making and possessing images from the internet of child sexual exploitation highlight the law. Then Michael Jackson’s penchant for porn completes the recent picture.
In the old days, before the internet, porn consisted of cartoon postcards emblazoned “What the Butler Saw” or, at worst, some grainy blue 8 mm film dragged out at stag parties where the bump and grind was more tame than a Jane Fonda workout video. You saw less breast and leg than found in an average KFC quarter pack today.
But with the internet, porn has exploded from a puerile set of smutty images to a much more insidious and depraved level of degradation.
