Historical Crimes

Our Acts of Parliament dealing with criminal offending have certain time limits in which charges must be laid (filed) in Court.  So you should know the law because a breached time limit may provide you with a defence.

We now provide you with a direct link to the Government legislation site where you can look up Acts of Parliament and Regulations and Rules. An Act is also known as a Statute. A Regulation is also sometimes known as a Rule. This Government legislation site is still going through some teething problems. But you will be able to access all legislation and find specific Acts and Rules and individual sections.

Statutes
Statutory Regulations
Local & Private Acts

Relatively minor traffic offending, but including drink driving cases, must be laid (filed) within six months of the offence.

Certain drug cases must be laid (filed) within four years.

"I also found the topic on the Limitation Act 1950 helpful because it dealt with time limits for civil cases . . . 2 years for defamation (without getting leave), 6 years for contracts etc. Good to get it all on one site. I thought I had a good case for defamation but I really left it too late. Des N - Tauranga"

"I find this topic really helpful as well as all the topics under the "Weekend Arrest" topic. This is the sort of basic informatin which needs to be taught in schools. Don't you agree?"

"I was roughly treated at a Police interview. One cop did hit me. It was not that hard but he banged me on the top of the head and yelled that he wanted the truth. It does happen . . not as bad as you see on TV but it does happen. Kevin - North Shore"

"Bullshit new law but I see you have the new and the old law set out. I will smack my kids if I have to but I will not bash them. Let bloody Helen Clark come and look after them if she thinks she can do a better job than me. I really came on to Netlaw for the limited licence help. Good. Gray. - Palmerston North"
