Incest is an unpleasant subject but with a widening of the definitions of families and parents and step parents, we thought we should cover the topic.

Incest is sexual abuse or sexual contact between relatives within the immediate and extended family.  It can also include people who are considered family members, although there is no blood relation e.g. close friends termed aunt/uncle.

Incest can be particularly harmful because of the close relationship the offender has with the victim. Incest often shatters a trusting relationship and usually involves the abuse of power where one person uses their power to manipulate another person.

Incest now covers any form of “sexual connection” following the widening of the definition in our sexual violation laws a decade ago.  Incest is not limited to ordinary full sexual intercourse.  It included “petting, “”fingering” and oral sex.

The formal definition in Section 2 of the Crimes Act 1961 states:

sexual connection means —

(a) connection effect

"I also found the topic on the Limitation Act 1950 helpful because it dealt with time limits for civil cases . . . 2 years for defamation (without getting leave), 6 years for contracts etc. Good to get it all on one site. I thought I had a good case for defamation but I really left it too late. Des N - Tauranga"
