The Fair Trading Act 1986 is a very important Act of Parliament which regulates false advertising.
Advertising must not mislead or deceive customers. In fact, the test used even lower than that. Advertising must not be of a kind which is likely to mislead or deceive customers.
Firstly, the advertising of goods and services which cannot in fact be supplied is defined in the Act as "bait advertising". The Act requires traders to supply advertised goods and/or services for a reasonable or stated period of time and in reasonable quantities.
